Climate Change
Overview
Climate change as a result of global warming from human activity is now accepted by the scientific community and the public. Responding to climate change requires the urgent management and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, and strategies to adapt existing practices to climate change scenarios.
Local government plays an important role in climate change as a community leader and educator. The sector is achieving greenhouse gas mitigation in council operations and through the delivery of community greenhouse abatement programs.
Local government will play an increasingly important function in greenhouse gas mitigation and the development and implementation of adaptation strategies required to reduce vulnerability to the current and future projected impacts of climate change.
