This training aimed to build the capacity of council staff to correctly identify people pledging their Australian citizenship at council-run ceremonies. While the risk of someone standing in candidates’ place is small, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection is seeking to mitigate it by delivering this simple, and interesting, training.

Future of Local Government National Summit Tuesday 17 May to Wednesday 18 May

The 2016 summit explored possible solutions such as rewiring public services via principles of devolution, subsidiarity and localism; identifying things done best at national, state, regional and local levels; setting flexible, place-based funding arrangements that deliver on local priorities; and developing an LG transformation strategy to slash costs, build non-rate revenue and renegotiate its relationship with the community.
