In the face of continuing criticism about the timeliness and quality of planning decision-making, councils must be proactive about demonstrating their efficiency, effectiveness and ongoing commitment to doing things better.
The event is structured so that senior managers and councillors can attend the first session from 9.00am to11.00am. Council officers will have the opportunity to hear about improvement ideas and concepts over the full day.
Session one: risk, planning reform & organisational change
The morning session will discuss risk, planning reform and driving organisational change. The panel members are:
- John Cooney of Vanguard Consult
- Marco Negri on behalf of MAV Insurance
- Geoff Underwood (tbc) of Spade consultants
The Department of Planning and Community Development will also provide a brief outline of the code assessment proposal.
The morning session will conclude with morning tea and the announcement of the winner of the President’s Award for Planning Improvement.
Session two: STEP planning experience
The second session will showcase three councils that have been involved with STEP planning. They will talk about what their experiences with STEP and the ups and downs of running planning services.
Session three: interactive discussion
The final session is interactive with three discussion options:
- getting quality applications in the door
- managing a variable workload
- compliance hurdles
