This program will help increase the capacity of councils to manage their organisation’s corporate carbon footprint and carbon price exposure.
The program is based on guidance published in our Local government guide to reducing carbon emissions which has been updated to include new policy and practice.
Participants in the training program will learn more about:
- measuring corporate greenhouse gas emissions in line with the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Standard
- recent legislative and policy changes in carbon pricing and emissions reporting
- the implications of carbon pricing on council operations
- reducing their exposure to the carbon price using no-cost, or low-cost, strategies
- acquiring valid carbon offsets, including the Carbon Farming Initiative
- requirements for ‘carbon neutrality’ claims under the National Carbon Offset Standard
Case studies of exemplary approaches to carbon reduction by councils throughout Victoria will also be presented to showcase local government experiences and lessons in implementing these projects.
This full day of training is open to all council officers.
