The McArthur Local Government Fellowship is awarded annually to a Victorian councillor to undertake international research in a policy area of significance to the local government sector.
The $12 000 study grant is provided by McArthur Management Services who have been a long-standing sponsor of this award.
The award assists with short-term overseas travel. There are no restrictions on the area of research chosen; however, proposals that focus on a topical issue with sector-wide applicability will be well regarded.
Acceptance of religious freedom
2012 fellow Charlotte Baines will examine the challenges and opportunities for local government in building greater community tolerance and acceptance of religious freedom.
Streetlight reduction programs
Tony Wolfe, who was a fellow in 2011, researched streetlight reduction programs in Australia, Europe, the UK and the US.
