MAV Gender Equality Forum: An Equal Future - building your skillset for gender equality

An Equal Future offered an opportunity to come together for a day of thought provoking and inspirational insights to help build a future of gender equality. Running throughout the day, the themes of backlash and resistance were explored, with attendees hearing from experts in this field, and given the opportunity to build their skills in responding to resistance when undertaking work focused on gender equality.

Program

MAV President Cr Mary Lalios will open the forum, which will include a panel discussion between Minister for Women and Prevention of Family Violence Hon. Natalie Hutchins, State Deputy Party Leader of the Greens Nina Springle, and Leader of the Reason Party Fiona Patten.

Catherine Fox, Walkley award-winning journalist,  author of Stop Fixing Women and co-author of Women Kind will deliver a keynote on gender equality and the workplace, whilst Dr Bridie O'Donnell will speak on gender equality and sport. Dr. Michael Flood from the University of Queensland will run an interactive workshop with the audience on handling resistance and backlash. Loren Days from Our Watch will speak to the importance and application of an intersectional approach to gender equality initiatives.

We will also be joined by Tracey Gaudry, CEO of the recently established Respect Victoria, Ben Rimmer, CEO of the City of Melbourne and Kerry Thompson, MAV CEO, in conversation about their experiences of leading organisations and managing backlash.
