MAV President and Board positions contested (11 Feb)

Elections are underway for the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and the office of MAV President, together with eight regional Board positions will be determined on 4 March 2011.

Four candidates have nominated for the popularly elected position of MAV President. Candidates (in ballot paper order) are:

  • Cr Jane Rowe (East Gippsland Shire)
  • Cr Geoff Gough (Manningham City Council)
  • Cr Bill McArthur (Golden Plains Shire)
  • Cr Reid Mather (Buloke Shire).

Meanwhile, candidates have been elected unopposed in four of the 12 MAV Board regions:

  • Cr Rod Fyffe, City of Greater Bendigo (rural north central region - incumbent Board member)
  • Cr Ken Gale, Moyne Shire Council (rural south west region - incumbent Board member)
  • Cr Geoff Lake, Monash City Council (metro southern region - incumbent Board member)
  • Cr Geoff Gough, Manningham City Council (metro east region - incumbent Board member)

In the eight contested regional Board positions, the candidates (in ballot paper order) are:

  • Metro central region: Cr Gaetano Greco (Darebin); Cr Enver Erdogan (Moreland)
  • Metro west region: Cr John Sipek (Moonee Valley); Cr Angela Altair (Hobsons Bay); Cr Michael Clarke (Maribyrnong)
  • Metro south east region: Cr Claude Ullin (Stonnington); Cr James Long (Bayside); Cr Coral Ross (Boroondara)
  • Interface region: Cr Mary Lalios (Whittlesea); Cr Ros Spence (Hume)
  • Rural north east region: Cr Peter Joyce (Towong); Cr Lisa Mahood (Wodonga)
  • Rural south central region: Cr David Clark (Pyrenees); Cr Andrew Richards (Greater Geelong)
  • Rural north west region: Cr Gary Norton (Swan Hill); Cr Reid Mather (Buloke); Cr Michael Gawith (Hindmarsh)
  • Rural Gippsland region: Cr Jane Rowe (East Gippsland); Cr Jeff Amos (Wellington).


Only councillors who are formally appointed to the role of MAV Representative by their council can nominate as a candidate for the MAV Presidency and/or Board, and vote in the election. Board members represent their regional grouping of councils and are elected by MAV Representatives from within their region.

The election is being conducted by postal ballot and results will be available after 4pm on Friday 4 March once votes have been counted. The term of office for the President and Board is two years.
