Restricted breed dogs and puppy farms (11 Nov)

11/11/2011
The Victorian Government has announced funding for eight outer metropolitan councils to help deal with the workload impacts of the restricted breed dog legislative changes.

In his media release, Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, Peter Walsh acknowledged the enormous increase in calls and requests for information that a number of councils had experienced following the State’s announcement of the early end to the restricted breed dog amnesty.

The MAV welcomes this round of funding and will continue to work with councils to identify other areas of need in relation to the legislative changes. The MAV has also sought legal advice regarding the responsibilities and liability of councils and will provide guidance within the coming weeks.
