National year of reading (17 Feb)

This week marked the start of the National Year of Reading.

Launched in Victoria by the Premier and by the Prime Minister nationally, the National Year of Reading 2012 is a collaborative project joining public libraries, government, community groups, media, commercial partners, and the public to promote literacy and reading. Many councils also hosted launch activities at their local libraries.

As part of the National Year of Reading, the MAV is working with the Public Libraries Victoria Network on a complementary initiative, Victorians Love Libraries. This will be launched soon to introduce new users to the public library service, and raise the profile and potential role of libraries in achieving shared local and State Government objectives.
