In the lead up to White Ribbon Day on Friday 25 November, Bill is calling on all councillors to swear to never commit, excuse or be silent about violence against women.
In Victoria, violence against women accounts for the greatest risk to ill health and death for women between the ages of 15 to 44 - greater than cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Nationally, one in three women will be assaulted or abused during her lifetime, and close to half of all women have experienced violence since the age of 15. The White Ribbon campaign works to prevent violence against women by changing attitudes and behaviours.
Councillors can swear the Oath as a symbol of your commitment to stand up
for the women in your life. It's an active statement which you can make to the world, and it's your chance to be part of real, positive change.
Take a photo with your fellow councillors and post it on the White Ribbon Facebook wall with a caption like "All _______ should swear at http://www.myoath.com.au". You can download the sign to print or make your own on the White Ribbon website.
