The Integrated Fire Management Planning framework builds on existing processes to support the integration, consistency and coordination of the fire management planning activities of government, the fire management sector and communities.
It does this by:
improving the links and interactions between state, regional, municipal and local level planning processes
planning across land tenures
improving community and organisational engagement
initiating fire management planning that is broader than fire and emergency services and includes other land management organisations, land owners and the community
linking fire management planning to a standard risk management approach
planning across the emergency management continuum of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery
incorporating performance management and continuous improvement mechanisms
Implementation of integrated fire management planning is well underway in every region with each having adopted fire management strategies to guide municipal level planning.
Most municipalities have produced municipal fire management plans, which are strategic, multi-agency plans for the local government area.
The latest versions of regional fire management strategies and municipal fire management plans can be found at the Integrated Fire Management Project website along with information on the program, endorsed plans, research streams and updates.
