Integrated fire management planning aims to enhance the integration of Victoria’s network of agencies and organisations that are responsible for fire prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. This will ensure a more strategic approach to fire management planning.
The State Fire Management Planning Committee (SFMPC) supervises the implementation of integrated fire management planning.
Eight regional fire management planning committees have now been established across Victoria. In 2009, the SFMPC endorsed the three-year State fire management strategy which outlines key themes and timeframes for implementation. A new strategy is due for release in 2012.
Implementation of integrated fire management planning has started in every region with the establishment of several municipal fire management planning committees and the drafting of a number of municipal fire management plans.
Municipal committees in the Barwon South West, Grampians and Gippsland regions as well as metropolitan regions on the Melbourne interface with high fire risk are drafting municipal fire management plans by 31 October 2011.
These plans are strategic, multi-agency plans for the local government area. All municipal committees are expected to produce draft plans by mid-2012.
