​The capacity of councils to undertake pest plants and animals management varies dramatically. We’ve been working to build this capacity within councils and to get clarity around the difficult issue of roadside pest plants and animals.

Our president was directly involved with the Minister for Agriculture’s Roadside Pests Working Party. Through this group, we’re seeking to clarify responsibility and get certainty around the management of pest plants and animals on council-managed roadsides. The MAV held discussion for Mayors, Councillors and CEOs on 28 June 2011 to develop a draft position on the Working Party Report, which accompanied the final report to the Minister.

The Minister for Agriculture and Food Security released the Working Party's Final Report (PDF or web version) in October 2011.
