Access & equity for CALD communities

We help councils and ethnic organisations improve access to home and community care services for culturally and linguistically diverse communities (CALD).

Our Sector Development and Supported Access Pilot Project funds a supported access worker in eight CALD organisations across Melbourne.

Access workers:

  • help CALD clients who are eligible for home and community care services understand, access, negotiate and make informed decisions about their care options
  • can refer clients for, and support them during, a living at home assessment
  • help organisations providing services to understand the client's cultural needs
  • ensure the client's carer and other family members understand the processes

The project is based on the Culturally Equitable Gateways Strategy, which was implemented from 2004 to 2006.

The Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria and the Department of Health also support the project.
