2018 Grants Round – Free from Violence local government grants

Local government plays a critical leadership role in shaping the culture and attitudes of their communities through service provision, planning and procurement, as large employers and via initiatives they run at a local level.

The State Government is partnering with councils to promote gender equality to stop the scourge of family violence, with $2.7 million available in this grants round for local government. Grants are available for councils to build capacity and capability across their organisation and embed primary prevention principles and activity, as well as scale up or develop innovative prevention programs that are tailored to the needs of their respective communities.

This funding is part of the $15.5 million in the 2017-18 Victorian Budget to deliver prevention of family violence initiatives. Councils were able to apply for individual or collective grants to support new and existing work.

Out of 51 applications, 35 projects have received funding through this program.

The funded councils are required to evaluate their projects using the Evaluation reporting template (Part B) from the Local Government Free From Violence Grants program – Evaluation reporting guidance and template (PDF - 624KB), developed by the Office for Women, Department of Premier and Cabinet.
