Regional Groupings of Councils Review

The MAV invited feedback from councils about the review of the MAV Board regional groupings of councils.

The MAV Board released an Options Paper about the configuration of the regional groupings and sought written feedback, about the options proposed in the Paper, to be emailed to MAV at mavboardregions@mav.asn.au by 5pm on Wednesday 7 December 2022.

The review was conducted following the decision by State Council, as part of the recent review of the MAV Rules, to alter the number of MAV regional groupings of councils from 12 to 10.  The primary purpose of the regional groupings is to elect delegates to the MAV Board as Directors.  The MAV Board elections are held every two years.  The next election will be held on Friday 3 March 2023.

The new MAV Rules 2022 continue the past requirement that the State Council determines the number of regional groupings, and the Board decides the configuration of those groupings following consultation with member councils.

Following a detailed analysis and consideration of the feedback received in response to the Options Paper and to provide time for delegates and the MAV to make the necessary preparations for the Board elections, the MAV Board Made the determination about the new configuration of the regional groupings in December.  The Board has notified all members about the new regional groupings within 14 days of making the determination. The new configuration of the regional groupings is available here.

The last review of the regional groupings was conducted in the early 2000s.  This recent review provides an opportunity to consider the configuration of the groupings which are suitable to meet present day requirements.  Under the new MAV Rules a review of the regional boundaries is to be conducted at least once every six years.
